Bermuda’s immigration reform plan is scheduled to be tabled in the House of Assembly this week
Following a panel discussion on the findings of a business confidence survey conducted by the Bermuda Chamber of Commerce and HSBC across 198 companies, on July 4, Bermuda’s Minister of National Security Wayne Caines said that the immigration reform plan would be tabled in parliament this week and would take into consideration the needs of businesses on the island and Bermuda as a whole.
The survey found that restrictive immigration policies were among the biggest concerns for Bermudian-based businesses but Minister Caines noted this issue had to be balanced by the government’s social responsibility to Bermudians which includes ensuring there are appropriate training and development opportunities.
Minister Caines acknowledged that the proposal had been a significant challenge for his government but was being worked on as a matter of priority.
