Automated Passport Control (APC) kiosks will be used to facilitate entry into the territory
British Virgin Islands passport holders and United Kingdom citizens will be able to expedite their travel process at the Terrance B. Lettsome International Airport on Beef Island in the British Virgin Islands by using an interactive kiosk recently launched by the Immigration Department.
The APC kiosk enables the eligible travelers to scan their passports and respond to entry questions without the need for human interaction. It employs sophisticated facial recognition technology to verify travelers’ identities.
The launch of the system was overseen by BVI Deputy Premier Kye Rymer ahead of the upcoming tourist season. Deputy Premier Rymer acknowledged the work of the Immigration Department which collaborated with Canadian Bank Note Company to execute the project during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.
It is hoped that the kiosks will ensure the best possible experience for residents and visitors and will improve the territory’s border security. The facility will be extended to other nationalities at a later date.
