Companies and organisations can now register to allow employees to re-enter the territory lifting the moratorium that has been in place since June
As part of the next phase of the British Virgin Islands’ Restricted Border and Controlled Re-Entry Plan, employers may now register their company and/or organisation and the employee or employees for whom they wish to obtain authorisation for travel back into the territory. Previously only Virgin Islanders, belongers, permanent residents and naturalised citizens were allowed to travel into the British Virgin Islands after registering their intention to do so online and undergoing pre-checks by the Immigration Department, and the Public Health and Environmental Health Divisions, but the change means several new categories of persons are now allowed to re-enter including work permit holders, existing work permit exemption holders, persons holding residing entry permits, students enrolled at local medical schools and the community college, persons employed by the government, and dependents of belongers, permanent residents, work permit holders and work permit exemption holders.
Aviation crew, maritime crew, healthcare practitioners/medical staff, emergency maintenance, repair and technical personnel and other essential specialised workers have also been granted permission to remain in the territory for a maximum of five days.
Companies wishing to take advantage of the change in policy should register online and create an account. A team comprised of members from the Immigration and Labour Departments will review the information submitted and approve or dismiss the application. Registrants are advised that the process will take a minimum of two weeks to complete.
