The Bermuda government has launched a purpose-built website to enable professionals, investors, entrepreneurs, digital nomads and students who are able to work remotely to apply for the new one-year residential certificate.
Eligible applicants are encouraged to submit their completed form, together with supporting documentation and the US$263 fee, online. A separate application and fee is required for each dependent family member. Applications will be processed by the Department of Immigration and a response is expected to be provided within five business days.
A certificate holder is entitled to reside in and work remotely from Bermuda for a year and the holder’s dependent family members may also reside on the island if it has been shown that they can be financially supported although dependent family members residing on the island are not eligible to work but are encouraged to volunteer their time to support Bermuda’s many not-for-profit organisations and registered charities. A certificate may be renewed after 12 months provided that a new application is made.
Both the government of Bermuda and the local business development agency have touted the ease of remote working, the island’s safe and “virtually COVID-19-free” environment, its ideal geographic time-zone, modern infrastructure, sophisticated lifestyle and good work-life balance as the main benefits of working from the jurisdiction.
