According to the Home Office, more than 3.3 million EU and EEA citizens have been granted the right to remain in UK to date
While no accurate data on the number of EU and EEA citizens (together “EU Citizens”) living in the country exists, previous estimates have suggested that between 3 million and 3.8 million EU Citizens currently reside in the UK. According to government figures, as at May 31, 2020, the total number of applications received under the settled status scheme was 3,612,400 of which 57% had been granted “settled status” while approximately 41% of applicants had been granted “pre-settled” status. 8,900 applications received a withdrawn or void outcome, 14,100 were invalid and 900 were refused altogether.
Those of Polish heritage represented the largest nationality cohort remaining in the UK with 697,000, followed by Romanians, Italians, Portuguese and Spanish.
EU Citizens currently living in the UK have until June 30, 2021 to apply to regularise their status.
