Tourists marooned in the BVIs

Repatriation flights were hastily organised out of Bermuda and the Cayman Islands, but it appears that many visitors have been left in the British Virgin Islands since lockdown measures were implemented

Vincent Wheatley, the minister of natural resources, labour and immigration announced in the House of Assembly in Road Town last week that when the British Virgin Islands and other countries closed their borders to international travel, a significant number of visitors were left in the territory with no prospect of return. While the total number is unknown, Minister Wheatley confirmed that the Department of Immigration will take the necessary steps to accommodate visitors including extending their landing permits, if possible, and extending the deadline for any fee payment by three months.

The department was scheduled to re-open for business last week, however due to the announcement of two new cases of coronavirus in the territory bringing the total number to five, a limited service will now be available by appointment only.
