Bermuda’s minister of national security has threatened to revoke the permits of expatriate works who fail to follow the prescribed period of self-quarantine
As of today, all persons entering Bermuda are required to self-quarantine for 14 days on arrival and, according to an urgent advisory issued by Wayne Caines, the minister of national security, any guest worker found to be in violation of the order will immediately have their work permit revoked.
The minister’s statement was subsequently criticised by the Bermuda Public Services Union as being discriminatory as the penalty for disobeying the order was more severe for work permit holders than other residents the territory. The policy was subsequently retracted but the threat of serious repercussions for breach of the policy remained.
