New electronic visa system for the British Virgin Islands

The British Virgin Islands government has signed a $6.4 million agreement with Canadian Bank Note (CBN) Company Ltd to set up a new system to monitor the territory’s borders

Premier Andrew Fahie and Deputy Premier Vincent Wheatley signed the deal for the border management and electronic visa system this week. Canadian Bank Note is the largest border control solution provider in the CARICOM region and takes on the task of setting up a system to monitor the territory’s borders and sharing real-time information between agencies for a period of five years.

The arrangement will enable seamless information sharing and statistics gathering on travellers and cargo. It is hoped that the new system will lead to greater efficiencies in the collection of data and the processing of passengers and goods at the territory’s borders.

The process to install the system is scheduled to start on January 13.
