The controversial immigration reform programme created by the governing party of the British Virgin Islands is mentioned as the Premier takes stock of his first 100 days in office
While recounting the achievements his government has made, British Virgin Islands’ Premier Andrew Fahie spoke at length about their efforts to implement meaningful immigration reform. The policy of fast tracking long term expatriate citizenship applications turned out to be more contentious than previously anticipated and the government received a substantial amount of resistance to the proposal from members of the public causing them to temporarily sideline the plan.
“Given the make up of our economy, the challenges of the larger world outside, and the need for more investments, we view immigration and labour reform as a fundamental element for our future economic development.”
Premier Andrew Fahie
Premier Fahie acknowledged the divisive nature of the issue but also noted the inevitability of the change that is required. Consultations on the issue continue.
