The government of the Cayman Islands continues its drive to clear the backlog of permanent residency applications
According to figures provided by the government of the Cayman Islands, 1,823 permanent residency applications were processed in the period from February 2018 to March 2019. 1,414 of the applications were approved, 338 rejected and 71 deferred. The government received 886 applications for naturalisation as a British Overseas Territories citizen in 2018 which figure represents an increase of 406 from 480 in 2017 thought largely to be due to an increase in applications from spouses of persons who were themselves granted permanent residency in 2018. Of those applications, only five have been denied since January 2018 while 37 remain outstanding since September 2018.
