One day after the resignation of homeland security secretary Kirstjen Nielsen was accepted by the President, Donald Trump has announced that he will remove Secret Service director Randolph “Tex” Alles from his position.
Alles’s departure comes at a time of high turnover across the Department of Homeland Security which began last week when Trump withdrew his nomination for Ron Vitiello, Immigration and Customs Enforcement director to remain in position permanently on the grounds that Vitiello did not have a tough enough stance on immigration. President Trump has selected James M Murray to take over as director beginning in May. The department’s general counsel, John Mitnick, is expected to leave as well.
This may not be the last of the changes. Stephen Miller, the White House senior adviser who is known to have hardline views on immigration, is also said to be eyeing the removal of Lee Francis Cissna, the director of US citizenship and immigration services, the division that runs the legal immigration system.
