Following on the heels of the ceremony that took place last week, 80 people have been naturalised in the British Virgin Island as British Overseas Territory citizens.
The increase in the number of applications is the direct result of the aftermath the severe 2017 hurricane season which saw Hurricane Irma cause much devastation and destruction on the islands. At the ceremony held on April 2, Acting Premier Natalio Wheatley, who gave remarks on behalf of Premier Andrew Fahie, commended the citizens for their fortitude and commitment throughout the long and arduous naturalisation process. He stated that the British Virgin Islands government is committed to streamlining the naturalisation process to make it more transparent, efficient, effective, and logical.
“…it certainly goes along with our thinking that persons who have done their years, they have contributed, they should be regularised.”
