November 4, 2019 has been designated a public holiday in Bermuda for the first time to mark the 170th anniversary of the arrival of the first Portuguese immigrants to the island.
It provides Bermuda with an additional long weekend next year.
Premier David Burt noted that the move was part of his government’s desire to celebrate the many different cultural heritages found on the island. Andrea Moniz DeSouza, the Honorary Consul of Portugal in Bermuda, acknowledged that it was an honour to be for the Portuguese community to be recognised for their contributions to Bermuda.
