Former British High Commissioner Arthur Snell has criticised the Home Office after revealing he struggled to get his son British citizenship. Mr Snell explained on Twitter that he and his wife gave birth to a son in Trinidad and Tobago in 2011, but soon received notification from the Home Office that their application for citizenship had been refused. After initially being told that his son was ineligible for British citizenship, the then High Commissioner eventually managed to resolve the issue.
Comparing his situation to the plight of many British residents who arrived decades previously, Mr Snell used his experience to highlight deficiencies within the Home Office which he noted “defaults to refusal wherever possible”.
