The Cayman Islands Immigration Department has noted a marked increase in the number of work permit applications from persons who are hired within the territory since the beginning of 2017. According to figures given to the Cayman Compass newspaper in August, a total of 18,847 work permit applications were submitted to the Department between January 1 and July 31, 2017 – roughly the same number of permit applications were processed for all of 2016.
As at the middle of July, 2017 there were 24,880 active work permits in the Cayman Islands which include temporary, three-to-six month permits, government contracts and individuals who have applied for permanent residence status.
